Thilini Priyamali, who was in remand prison for alleged financial fraud, was released from prison yesterday (27) after receiving bail in all cases.

Speaking to the media in front of the Prison she said “I am fine. I was in the prison very restfully. I did not face a serious health issue as the media reported. As soon as the B report against me was presented to the court by the police, the media made me the culprit for this case and also gave me punishments.

It was a huge injustice for me and they crucified me.”

“There were a lot of such cases in Sri Lanka. Mine is one of them. But I don’t know why this case alone was given such a huge publicity by the media for the past two and a half months”, she said.

When asked how much money is left with her now, she laughed and said “Let’s talk about that later as this case is in the court right now.”

Priyamali also said that she doesn’t think this incident damaged or caused harm to her future. “Everything will happen based on the verdict of the court.”

She also said that “Even a small offence is enough for someone to go to jail. The prison itself is a university for an intelligent person whoever comes in. I got that experience too,”she said.

Prisons media spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake said that since the District Court has also set bail in the case against her for possessing a mobile phone, steps have been taken to release her.

Priyamali, who was remanded in custody and later granted bail in connection with the large-scale financial fraud incident, appeared before the Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday (27) and signed for bail conditions in eight cases against her.

She had been released after she and her relatives had fulfilled all bail conditions.
