Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Secretary Mahinda S. Weerasuriya said that the co-operative system can easily be utilized as a tool for alleviating poverty while participating in Sabaragamuwa Provincial celebration on ‘101 International Co-operative Day’.
The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Celebration on the occasion of the 101st International Co-operative Day was held last Friday at the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Library Auditorium, Ratnapura.
Following the celebrations, prizes and certificates were awarded to the winning co-operative societies in Sabaragamuwa province. Thereby, Warakapola Multi Services Co-operative Society won the first place while Rambukkana Multi Services Cooperative Society won the second place. Mawanella Hemmathagama Multi Services Co-operative Society won third place.
The talents of the schoolchildren who won the essay, speech and drawing competition held nationally in the three languages of Sinhala, Tamil and English about the co-operative system were evaluated.
Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Secretary Mahinda S. Weerasuriya, Provincial Co-operative Officer Nishantha Saman Kumara and others were present on this occasion.
