A Retired Senior Army officer was found guilty of raping his 15-year-old niece, and sentenced to 15 years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High court. In addition, the accused was ordered to pay compensation of Rs. 250,000 to the victim, while the Colombo High Court imposed an additional fine of Rs.25,000.
The Attorney General had filed the relevant indictment against the accused in 2019.
Following a lengthy trial, Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige ruled that the prosecution had proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt against the accused.
Attorney-at-Law Asitha Wipulanayake appeared for the accused.
