19 mobile phones found at Galle Prison


A stock of mobile phones, SIM cards, and narcotics was discovered during a search operation at the Galle Prison.

According to the Prisons Department, 19 mobile phones and 11 SIM cards were recovered.

Prison officials said that the items were found during a search carried out on February 3 in four prison wards and that no individual has claimed ownership of the seized items.

In addition, 58 small packets containing heroin and one packet suspected to contain heroin were also found.

The seized items have been taken into custody by the prison superintendent, and steps have been taken to hand over the narcotics to the Galle Police Station.

Further investigations are being conducted under the directives of the Prison Headquarters. (Newswire)
