A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder involving a shooting in the Nadeemala area of Dehiwala on Aug. 4, police said.
The suspect, a resident of Ratmalana, was arrested Monday (14) in the Mount Lavinia Police Division by a team of officers from the Moratuwa camp of the Police Special Task Force.
Police said the suspect had acted as the rider of the motorcycle used by the gunman to travel to the scene and had aided and abetted the attempted murder.
During the shooting, the firearm failed to discharge, allowing the intended victim to grapple with the gunman and wrest a pistol from him, police said.
The gunman and motorcycle rider then abandoned the firearm and fled the scene.
Dehiwala Police are conducting further investigations into the arrested suspect and efforts are underway to apprehend all suspects connected to the incident. (Newswire)
