The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has agreed to provide the land called Elumaduwa Watta, in extent of nearly two acres, situated at Dr. Danister De Silva Mawatha, Dematagoda, to build houses for low-income people, under the Chinese aid programme.
Accordingly, the Urban Development Authority (UDA) will start the related construction immediately.
Hence, the dispute between the CMC and the UDA pertaining to Elumaduwa Watta has now been resolved.
The UDA intends to construct 535 houses on this land, with the Chinese government providing financial assistance amounting to Yuan 552 million, to build 2,000 housing units for low-income people.
These houses are to be built in Peliyagoda, Dematagoda, Maharagama, Moratuwa and Kottawa.
The agreement for the construction of these houses is to be signed soon.
