A total of 285 suspects have been arrested during a seven-hour joint operation carried out by the Police, Police Special Task Force (STF) with the help of the Army, and the Air Force in several areas to nab drug traffickers.
Around 01 Kilogramme of heroin and 01 Kilogramme of cannabis also have been seized during the operation carried out at several locations.
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the operation was launched according to a strategy planned some time back and the Air Force, the Police STF and the Army were also involved.
It is said that there are several identified drug traffickers among the arrested suspects. A majority of the suspects arrested are from the Western Province.
Also among the arrested are some identified drug traffickers, Police said. Thalduwa said similar operations will be organized in the future as well.
