350 Students from 12 Schools in Colombo District participate in IDMJ workshop

Institute of Digital Media and Journalism (IDMJ) conducted a workshop and certificates awarding ceremony at the New Town Hall, Auditorium in Colombo recently.

It was held under the patronage of Executive Director and CEO of IDMJ Umair Naushad. Chief Guest of the ceremony Senior Advisor to the President on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayaka praised the IDMJ conducting this programme for the youth and already given knowledge of Digital Media through IDMJ for 3,000 youth.

350 Students from 12 Schools in Colombo District participated in the workshop and received certificates from the chief guest.

Ratnayake further said Social Media is very powerful tool and through social media even Government had also collapsed before the election. He recalled Sri Lanka’s Economic crisis in which awareness precipitated through Social Media.

He pointed out that anybody who does not accept usage of social media among the community does not have morality. Also Journalism doesn’t have morality and professionalism. They are hoping to benefit through personal and political ways. The media has major responsibility to give correct message in the right way.

Member of Parliament A.H.M. Fowzie, Former Governor Azath Sally, former Deputy Mayor of Colombo M.T.M. Iqbal, Prof. B.A. Hussainmiya, IDMJ Advisors Razmi Rafeek, Dr. Irshad Jabir, Irshad Razak, Dr. Chandima Wijegunawardena and Dr. Indika District Medical Officer attended the event.

Zamil Shafeek, COO and Director of Public Relations and Communication and Ahamed Shahid Niyas, Coordinating Director at IDMJ, Principals of the Schools, Teachers and Students were also present.
