As part of our enormous plans to support farmers in the country, we will offer a 50 kg fertiliser bag for just Rs. 5,000, and completely waive Agricultural loans. We will also ensure a fair price for their products, stated Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
Speaking at a public rally held in Polonnaruwa on Sunday (25), he further stressed, “We will implement fuel subsidies for farmers, fishermen, three-wheelers, school transport services, and shakti mill owners through a QR code system. The farmers have suffered greatly due to the Easter attacks, the corona virus, and fertiliser fraud. We intend to eliminate the black market by regulating the prices of Agrochemicals and Oil fertilisers, providing them at an affordable price.”
“Currently, rice prices are excessively high, while farmers receive less than half of the market price. We will not allow this mill mafia to exploit the farmers. We will offer rice to consumers at a reasonable price and ensure a higher guaranteed price for farmers.”
“All privileges for millionaires will be revoked, and their debts will be collected. We are committed to returning lands lost by farmers during the war and prioritising forest conservation. We aim to modernise farming through smart cultivation, providing new technology and machinery to increase productivity on limited farmlands.”
“Furthermore, we will enhance Information Technology (IT) education and establish IT parks in the country. India was able to be successful because they opened training institutes like the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Management. We will take steps to provide English language core education for every student in the country.”
“We are seeking the people’s mandate after undertaking billion-rupee initiatives such as the ‘Sakwala’ and ‘Husma’ programmes as the first Opposition Leader to do so in the country. No other leader has dedicated to the people like that.”
