5,300 kg polythene lunch sheets destroyed on Court order

5,300 kilograms of lunch sheets which were seized during raids done by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) and Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and banned under the National Environment Act (NEA), were destroyed on Tuesday (19) at the Puttalam Cement Factory premises following a Court order.

This stock of lunch sheets, which were banned in September 2017 under the NEA considering 09 factors including brand name, manufactured date, and life span, were estimated to be worth nearly Rs. 3M.

These polythene lunch sheets were destroyed under the supervision of the Consumer Affairs Authority, Central Environmental Authority, and the Insee Ecocycle Company in Puttalam.

Moreover, the Central Environmental Authority urges the public and shop owners to refrain from using these banned polythene products to prevent any harm caused by these polythene products to both humans and the environment.
