A Gesture of Care for the Unsung Heroes of the Kandy Esala Perahera

As this year’s Kandy Esala Perahera enters its final stages, Newswire LK reporting from the sacred hill capital is witnessing the roll out of a remarkable health and wellness initiative launched to support more than 1,000 traditional performers taking part in the annual festival.

The initiative, titled “Samahan Arakshawe Pelahera”, is being carried out by Link Natural’s Samahan in partnership with the Media and Special Projects Bureau of the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

Throughout the 10-day festival, these artists – including Traditional dancers, drummers, torchbearers and elephant handlers among many others – perform late into the evening, enduring hours of high physical exertion under humid weather conditions and the intense heat of open flames along the procession route.

Under the programme, designated health and wellness stations have been established around the procession grounds, providing performers with hot Samahan drinks before and after their performances.

The support for performers extends beyond the procession itself. Newswire noted that medical personnel and volunteers from the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society are stationed at the venue to provide health guidance and basic first-aid assistance. Link Natural has also stepped in with MuscleGuard and CrampGuard topical applications to support performers managing muscle fatigue and physical exertion from hours of continuous movement.
