International Children’s Day fell on October 1, a day dedicated to the welfare of children globally.
It is common knowledge that in Sri Lanka, the children do not have access to the luxuries that the developed countries offer to their children. We often see and hear via media of children in the remote areas avoiding school for want of food and clothing.
ALUMINI Association of the University of Peradeniya Colombo Chapter (AAUPCC) council of management at its monthly meeting of September drew attention to this aspect and decided on funding the celebration planned by Ralapanawa Janapadaya School, Nochchiyagama, NCP. AAUPCC hosted the lunch for 270 children, 30 staff and parents. Some members and outside well-wishers too contributed financially.
This project turned out to be an overwhelming success and the school authorities, parents and children together expressed their unreserved gratitude to our team led by the President Priyath Cabral.
