Banjul: Sri Lankan Envoy to Kenya Kana Kananathan held bilateral discussions with the Foreign Minister of Gambia, Dr. Mamadou Tangara ahead of the upcoming Organization of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) summit, scheduled to be hosted by Gambia in the first week of May.
The discussions focused on fostering stronger ties between Sri Lanka and African Nations. Ambassador Kananathan reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to being a steadfast friend to Africa, highlighting the importance of co-operation and solidarity among African countries.
During the meeting, Kananathan expressed gratitude for Gambia’s historical support for Sri Lanka in international forums. He emphasised the significance of continued collaboration between the two countries on various multilateral platforms.
The OIC summit, set to convene in Gambia, will see the participation of numerous heads of state from OIC member countries. It presents an invaluable opportunity for dialogue and co-operation on key issues facing the Islamic world.
Kananathan expressed optimism about the prospects for enhanced partnership and co-operation between Sri Lanka and Gambia, as well as with other African Nations.
