The Attorney General has sought an order from the Court of Appeal to enforce the prison sentence imposed on Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, following the revocation of the presidential pardon previously granted to him.
A motion filed by the Attorney General seeking the order was taken up before the Court of Appeal today (29), before a bench comprising Justices Mayadunne Corea and Lakmali Karunanayake.
Gnanasara Thera was not present in court when the matter was taken up.
President’s Counsel Anura Meddegoda, appearing on his behalf, informed the court that the Thera was resting due to an illness. He requested additional time to study the motion filed by the Attorney General and make submissions.
However, State Counsel Sajith Bandara, appearing for the Attorney General, pointed out that the matter concerned a criminal case and requested that a warrant be issued if the accused fails to appear before court.
Following the request by Gnanasara Thera’s counsel for time to study the motion and make submissions, the court adjourned proceedings for a short period. (Newswire)
