It is reported that there are about 5,000 farmers in the Anuradhapura district who have not received support for their crops due to some omission, and that, support will be soon provided to them through the SAP project, said Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera in Parliament yesterday (18).
The Minister said that about 15,000 farmers in Anuradhapura district have been selected to provide assistance and steps have been taken to provide seeds, paddy land preparation fees and fertilizers for 20,000 acres of crops in that district through the SAP project.
The Minister was replying to a question from Anuradhapura District MP Ishaq Rahman of the Sama Jana Balavegaya.
The Minister also said that the people who received, not only monetary assistance, but also multi-purpose equipment, have also requested to receive subsidies this time, and due to a shortage of officials, the work of providing subsidies is a little late.
The Minister added that he will give instructions to the officials to find out if there are farmers in the Anuradhapura district who deserve subsidies, and take steps to provide assistance to them.
