Agriculture sector receives much needed boost from supermarket chains

The Sri Lanka agriculture sector received the much needed boost thanks to the supermarket chains, said Seed and Planting Material Association Sri Lanka.

Secretary, SPMASL Gamunu Jayasundara said that a lot of farmers were drifting away from agriculture due to the fact that they did not find a good market to sell their produce.

“But with the emergence of the super markets the farmers are not only getting a good price for their crops but the supermarket representatives come to their door steps and make the purchases. “This has also reactivated the interest from youth to get involved in the agri sector and there is also more recognism for agri farmers.”
