Ahinsa attributes her A/L results to perseverance despite obstacles

R. Ahinsa Wickremaratne, a student of Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo, who secured the highest marks at the 2022 GCE Advanced Level Examination in the Biotechnology stream,

yesterday attributed her success to perseverance despite various obstacles that came in her way.

She said that she did not give up her hope despite many challenges including Covid-19 and power interruptions.

Ahinsa said that she wants to be a lecturer in Biotechnology. She resides at Temple Road in Kalubowila and received her primary education at St Clair’s Girls’ school in Wellawatta and later entered the Devi Balika College for the Advanced Level.

“I sat for the 2019 GEC Ordinary Level examination and obtained 9As and it was a challenging period as the country was hit by Covid-19,” she said.

Ahinsa said that she pursued her education by using a torch as the power cut continued more than three hours. “I continued my studies with one of my friends at our home,” she said.

Her mother is a teacher and the father, a pensioner. She recollected how the school conducted online classes from 4.00 am. “The teachers showed great commitment and their commitment gave us encouragement,” she said.
