Air connectivity between India and SL should be further strengthened – Minister

Minister of Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva currently in India attending the ‘Wings 2024’ Globe conference held in Hyderabad, said that air connectivity between India and Sri Lanka should be further strengthened creating more flights.

“India is already Sri Lanka’s largest tourism source market with 302,844 arrivals in 2023 accounting for 20% to total arrivals.”

The minister said that there has been a 100% increase in tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in 2023 compared to 2022, and noted that Katunayake International Airport has handled over 7 million air passengers.

He also said that India’ s aviation industry too has achieved significant growth and many achievements in the last few years, which has also been a great strength for Sri Lanka’s aviation industry which is close to India.”

A group of delegates including 10 ministers involved in aviation sectors representing 106 countries, participated in this global conference. The Chairman of the Airport and Air Services Company, Atula Galkatiya, and the Director of Civil Aviation Authority, Additional Director General Rehan Wanni Appa, participated in this conference.
