Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa was ordered to be further remanded until September 29 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (18).
He was further remanded after being produced as a suspect in an investigation into the alleged misuse of approximately US$2 million during the procurement of Airbus aircraft by SriLankan Airlines.
Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the investigation.
He was recently named as a suspect in a money laundering case linked to alleged financial irregularities surrounding SriLankan Airlines’ aircraft procurement process.
The money laundering investigation is related to the controversial 2013 SriLankan Airlines Airbus procurement.
Rajapaksa was named as a suspect following instructions from the Attorney General after investigators submitted material relating to the case. (Newswire)
