Liyanage, the former St. Peters College Bambalapitiya cricketer, exhibited exceptional form, scoring 383 runs in 6 innings with an average of 63.83. He has already been selected for the preliminary 20-member ODI squad for the forthcoming Zimbabwe series. Galle CC batter Irosha Samarasooriya secures second place among the batters with 357 runs in 5 innings, boasting a 71.40 average, while NCC opener Pathum Nissanka is in third place with 314 runs in 4 innings and an average of 78.50.
Meanwhile, experienced off-spinner Akila Dananjaya, back in the ODI squad after three years, excelled in this series, claiming 17 wickets in 6 innings with an average of 9.76. Baduraliya SC off-spinner, Indian player Parvez Rasool, also has 17 wickets in 5 innings with an average of 13.17, securing the second spot.
Moors SC off-spinner Ramesh Mendis, with 15 wickets in 7 matches and an average of 14.73, is in third place among bowlers. Notably, all three top bowlers are off-spinners.
SSC and Sebastinaites maintain top positions in points table
After seven matches SSC and Sebastianites lead in their respective groups of the ongoing Major Clubs limited over cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC),
SSC led by Charith Asalanka faced their first defeat against Bloomfield last Thursday but still tops Group ‘B’.
With seven matches played, SSC won five matches and lost one, maintaining 11 points with a net run rate of 0.776.
Chilaw Marians CC and Bloomfield, each with 9 points, secure second and third places in group ‘B’, respectively, followed by Nugegoda SC, Baduraliya SC and NCC.
Sebastinaites CC Moratuwa, under the leadership of Shasrika Pussegolla, has been a stand-out team in the Major Clubs limited-over cricket tournament, topping Group ‘A.’ With 7 matches played, they have four wins and one loss, holding 10 points with a net run rate of 1.013. Negombo CC, beating CCC in their last game, is in second place with 9 points and a net run rate of 1.076. Colts CC, led by Akila Dananjaya, is in third place with 9 points and a 0.810 net run rate, followed by Moors SC, Ragama CC, and CCC.
Today, 8 crucial matches will determine the teams for the semi-finals on January 13th, with the final scheduled for January 16th.
