All assistance for flood hit children facing exam tomorrow

In the midst of floods and landslides, the Akuressa, Athuraliya and Malimbada Divisional Secretaries of the Akuressa electoral area are preparing to provide all necessary facilities to direct the children appearing for the year five scholarship exam to be held on Sunday 15.

The number of children appearing for the examination in Akuressa, Athuraliya, Malimbada Divisional Secretariat divisions is as follows: Children of Akuressa division – 934, Children of Athuraliya Division – 570, Children of Malimbada Division – 87.

Majority of these children are facing flood situation. Grama Niladari and economic development officers of each domain have met the parents of those children and prepared plans to bring the children trapped in the flood safely to the examination centers. Athuraliya Divisional Secretary Nirosha Gamage states that preparations have been made to take the children to the respective examination centers under strict security. Coordinating activities will be handled by Athuraliya Disaster Relief Service Officer Theekshana Wickramaratne.

Athuraliya Divisional Secretariat – 041-2284458 Malimbada Divisional Secretary Umesha Matarage said that 87 children will appear for the examination in four examination centers in the Malimbada division and plans have been made to take all the children trapped in the flood to the relevant examination centers and Grama Niladhari and economic development officers have been deployed to inform the children’s parents. Army, Navy boats and trucks are stationed in flood prone areas. Officers of the Divisional Secretariat offices have been deployed in those places since 6 am that day. Akuressa Police Station Chief Inspector Sudath Sudusinghe, Malimbada Police Station Chief Inspector J.C Alawaththa, Bangama Police Station Chief Inspector Kaushalya Nanayakkara said that all the security arrangements have been organized for Saturday and Sunday until the end of the scholarship examination and the children are sent home.
