All stalled development projects in Kesbewa will be resumed – MP Gamini Lokuge

“Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana has always been a very close politician to the people of the Kesbewa and Piliyandala areas. Whatever request the people in our areas make he never forgets it. He is a great strength to our area. On behalf of the people of Kesbewa, I thank him for the services rendered for the area and the people,” former Minister and current Member of Parliament Gamini Lokuge said addressing a public gathering yesterday.

Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana at the ceremony to commence renovation of the road from Makuluduwa to Bokundara. Member of Parliament Gamini Lokuge officially launches the renovation work.

Lokuge was speaking at an event organised to mark the commencement of the renovation of the road from Makuluduwa to Bokundara which is being developed under the National Plan to develop 1,500 kilometres of roads.

Due to the lack of any renovation for a long time, this road had become very difficult for traffic, and with the intervention of Minister Dr. Gunawardhana, the renovation work was started on an immediate basis.

The Minister gave instructions to the officials to complete the renovation work started by the Road Development Authority under the Ministry of Transport and Highways in a very short period of time. Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana speaking at the event said, “We have been able to start working on this road today at a time when our country, which had been in a crisis is being taken on the path of development. Some are trying to deceive the people by saying that hospitals and roads in this country are built with the money of taxpayers. In the last 30 to 40 years, no matter who the President of this country was, the tax income was not sufficient to cover the daily expenses of this country. By the end of every month more than 1.4 million state employees need to be paid. Retired citizens have to be paid their pensions. Relief should be given to low income families. We need to pay domestic and foreign loan interest. They are called recurring expenses. In the past, no government has had any income to cover this cost. This is why we have taken loans as the government income is not enough.”

The Maha Sangha, a large number of officials including the Road Development Authority’s Western Provincial Director Darshana Ruwan, state officials, and public representatives attended the ceremony.
