A 55-year-old ambulance driver was killed and several others were injured after an ambulance belonging to the Meegalewa Hospital collided with a lorry in the Kettapahuwa area along the Padeniya-Anuradhapura Road, police said.
The accident occurred on Sept. 10 when a lorry travelling towards Anuradhapura collided with the ambulance travelling in the opposite direction.
The ambulance driver, his assistant, a health official travelling in the ambulance and the lorry driver sustained serious injuries and were initially admitted to the Ambanpola Hospital before being transferred to the Galgamuwa Hospital. The ambulance driver later died.
The deceased was a 55-year-old resident of the Diwullegoda area.
Two women travelling in the lorry were also injured. Police said they were transferred from the Ambanpola Hospital to the Kurunegala Hospital for further treatment, while the lorry driver was transferred to the Anuradhapura Hospital.
