Police have found a stockpile of ammunition and bombs including a bullet used for an anti-aircraft gun in a thicket in Patha Mailapitiya area close to Padiyapalella main road in Kandy.
A Police team which went to the location following a call received on the Police emergency hotline number, found the stock of explosives in the thicket which had been set on fire recently.
Police found a 40 mm grenade, nine LMG bullets, NR 423 type live grenade, SFG 82 type live grenade and a 36 millimeter type live grenade.
The hand grenades were detonated by the Digana Ambakote Special Task Force Camp officers after the Thalatuoya Police reported the facts to the Kandy Magistrate’s Court.Police are conducting further investigations.
