Sri Lanka suffered another T20 international series defeat as Pakistan comprehensively secured a 2-0 series victory with one match remaining, extending Sri Lanka’s losing streak in bilateral T20 internationals to six matches.
The latest setback comes amid a fresh beginning for Sri Lanka under a revamped coaching setup led by Gary Kirsten and new team management, with the team still searching for improved results.
Following Sri Lanka’s exit at the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup, significant changes were introduced to the team’s coaching structure and management, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the national side.
However, the team has continued to struggle in all formats including in T20Is.
In T20Is Sri Lanka suffered a 2-1 series defeat against the West Indies before being whitewashed 3-0 by England. The latest setback against Pakistan has added to the disappointing run.
Beyond the results, the manner of the recent defeats has been particularly disappointing.
In their last six bilateral T20 internationals, Sri Lanka have struggled to produce close contests, with none of the matches developing into a closely fought finish.
The repeated defeats have highlighted concerns over batting consistency, poor fielding, bowling execution and the team’s overall game plan, including its ability to adapt to different match situations.
Missed opportunities in the field, inconsistent performances with the bat and difficulties executing plans at crucial stages have contributed to Sri Lanka’s struggles against international opponents. (Newswire)
