The funeral of former Sri Lankan cricket captain Aravinda de Silva’s mother was held in Colombo on Wednesday (16), attended by family members, friends and former cricketers.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court issued a warrant for De Silva and his wife, Priyangi Anushka Wijenayake, after they failed to appear in court in their capacity as bail sureties in a case involving former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena.
De Silva was unable to attend court due to his mother’s funeral.
A lawyer familiar with the matter told NewsWire that De Silva, who is not a suspect in the case, can appear before the court and request that the warrant be recalled.
The lawyer said the matter could be resolved through the normal court procedure, as the warrant was issued over his failure to appear as a surety.
De Silva and his wife had previously stood as sureties when Chandrasena was granted bail.
The proceedings are connected to an investigation into alleged corruption involving Airbus aircraft procurement deals at SriLankan Airlines.
The warrant relates to De Silva’s absence from court in his capacity as a surety and does not indicate that he is a suspect in the Airbus investigation. (Newswire)
