Veyangoda Police on Tuesday (27) arrested a suspect who attempted to steal a high-powered transformer along with copper and circuits worth over Rs. 600,000 installed in the Danvilana area on the Colombo-Kandy Central Expressway. The arrested man was a 32-year-old resident of Ganemulla.
Police said the suspect is believed to be a heroin addict and had 2 grams and 100 milligrams of heroin in possession at the time of arrest. Police revealed that the suspect is an electrician and has been engaged in a racket of breaking high-powered transformers, stealing copper and other high-value parts and selling them.
During interrogation, it was found that the suspect had been involved in several other robberies. The suspect is to be presented to Court.
