He was born on 1st May 2002 and admitted to the Grade One in 2008 when K. G. Wimalasena was at the helm of the school and from Grade One to four he did not take an interest in any sport activities but in 2012 his mother Mrs.Shiromi Priyadarshani Rodrigo handed over her son to the school coach Mr. Jagath and Master in Charge of Athletics Duleep Dushmantha and in 2012 at the sports meet he became second in 50 metres and Long Jump and third in 80 metres and in the Divisional and Zonal Meets he received Merit Certificates and in2013 too he won places at the school meet. Divisional and Zonal Meets. In 2014 at the sports meet he won 100 and 200 metres and won places at the Divisional and Zonal and at Provincial he could not gain a place.
Then in 2015 sports meet he won places and in the Divisional, Zonal and Provincial too he won places and his relay team with his other team mates Kumod,NuVinu and Janith came second in the 4 x 400 and in the All Island Schools Meet he could not come up to expectations. In the meantime his Coach . Duleep advised him to take up to 80 metres Hurdles and in his first attempt itself at the Junior John Tarbet Meet under 14 category he won a Gold Medal. Then in 2016 school meet he won the 80 metre Hurdles and came second in 100 and swept the board in both events at the Divisional and Zonal but could not win a place at the Provincial but at the All Island 4 x 400 relay they came third and at the under 15 age category he won a Bronze at the Junior John Tarbet Meet. Then in 2017 at the school meet he came second in 100 and 400 and in the 400 metre hurdles event he set his school record with a timing of 39.8 seconds and he was the under 16 Champion and the Best Athlete of the meet and in the Divisional and Zonal meets he carried away the Best Athlete awards and in the Provincial he received colours. In the Senior Tarbet Meet he won 400 hurdles and came third in 100 metres and in the All Island Schools Meet he won a Silver for 100 meter hurdles and in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 metre relay they came First and his team mates were Thelindu,Kavinda, Sanhida and Sandeepa and Dharmapala Vidyalaya were the All Island Relay Champions in 2017 and Yohan was the School Champion.
Then in 2018 he swept the board at the school meet Divisional and Zonal and at the John Tarbet Senior he came second in 400 hurdles and won colours and received Provincial Colours too and at the All Island Schools Meet he came first in 400 hurdles and won colours and in the All Island Relay Carnival his school was the runner up and the events were 100, 200, 300 and 400 metres and their timing was a record.
His last year in Athletics was in 2019 and due to Covid it came to a halt and he was the School, Divisional, Zonal Champion and 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 they were the second at the Provincial and at the Senior John Tarbet he set a record and came first and received colours and All Island Schools he won the 400 hurdles and received colours and in the 4 x 100 relay they came second. He was the under 20 school champion in 2020.
In 2019 he was selected to tour Hong Kong for the Asian Youth Athletic Meet and at the eleventh hour he met with an injury and could not make the trip. He was awarded and rewarded with Western Province Colours for 2016, 17 and 18 and at the School Colours Nite in 2016 he won the Best Junior up and coming award. In 2017and 2018 he was the Best up and coming Senior Athlete and he received school colours in 2016,17 and 18 and he was the School Games Captain in 2020. The School Old Boys Association and the Principal K.G. Wimalasena were very supportive of him to come up the ladder.
