An awareness bicycle ride from Akkaraipattu to Arugambay (100 km) on the theme “Corruption free prosperous country” organised by youth from a Social Media called “AKP News” with the assistance of Sunrise and Walkers Club of Akkaraipattu.
After a brief address by the Team leader ILM Hashim just before they start off their journey, he detailed the purpose of the programme and the role of participant cyclist has to play in talking to the people of every village and town. It was explained as how best they could contribute their shares to eradicate corruption and malpractices from the society. Stressing on the importance of communal amity and maintaining peace and harmony in their towns was also made clear to them.
Cyclists carrying Sri Lanka’s National flags on their cycles set off from Akkaraipattu Clock Tower round about early morning towards Arugambay. The team stopped at Thirukkovil, Sangamankandy, Komari, Pottuvil and finally Arugambay, a tourist resort as their last destination. The cyclists talked to the tourists too of the purpose of their programme and the tourists welcomed their move and wished them to achieve their target. The President of “AKP News” Latheef Yoosuf Lebbe told our Correspondent that their programme was very successful and they intended to plan a similar programme on an extensive scale later.
