The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the completion of the halted construction of the Renal Treatment Unit at the Badulla Teaching Hospital, alongside the establishment of a Professorial Unit.
The Badulla General Hospital, recently upgraded to a Teaching Hospital, has been designated as the clinical training centre for the Faculty of Medicine of Uva‑Wellassa University.
To support this role, the Cabinet approved a joint proposal by the Prime Minister, in her capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, together with the Minister of Health.
The contract has been awarded to Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd. (CESL) to expedite the completion of the ten‑storey Renal Treatment Unit, which had previously been left incomplete.
Officials said the project will fulfill nearly 80% of the professorial units and related teaching facilities required for clinical training at the hospital, strengthening both healthcare services and medical education in the region. (Newswire)
