The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for strong winds affecting several parts of the country due to active south-west monsoon conditions.
The advisory, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 3.30 p.m. today, is valid until 3.30 p.m. tomorrow.
According to the Met Department, strong winds of 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northern and North Central Provinces, as well as the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
Fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph are also expected at times in other parts of the island.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by strong winds. (Newswire)
