Birth certificates for Matara children to mark World Children’s Day

In conjunction with World Children’s Day on October 1, the Probation and Child Protection Department will start a programme to provide birth certificates or presumptive age certificates for children in Matara district who do not have birth certificates or presumptive age certificates.

Through this programme which will be implemented throughout Dipa, such children should be identified at the regional secretariat division level in October 2024 and referred to the child rights promotion officer of the respective regional secretariat division. The Early Childhood National Secretariat, Health Ministry as well as the children of the National Children’s Council have arranged to get support for this. The Registrar General’s Department has agreed to get the necessary approval to exempt the children who do not have birth certificates or presumptive age certificates from the fees to be paid in obtaining those certificates and the relevant certificates are issued expeditiously.
