Blockchain Centre opens at WTC with USD 150 Mn investment

In a bid to promote the digital economy in Sri Lanka the ‘Blockchain Centre Sri Lanka’ was opened at the World Trade Centre yesterday and the management is investing USD 150 million to promote the concept in Sri Lanka.

“We have already invested around USD 100 million so far towards opening this centre at WTC and also to train around 5,000 private and state university students/ lecturers in this regard,” said Co Founder of the Centre, Sakthi Rajaguru.

He said that under the instructions of Minister of Education Susil Peremjayanth who wanted the project to start from rural areas, they first commenced training lectures from the Eastern University and this program is now nearly completed.

“We then contracted with Ruhunu, Rajarata universities and also private institutions, SLT ICT, Education Institute, SLITT, Horizon Campus and ICBT two months ago to carry on this program.”

The world’s first non-profit education and knowledge Hub dedicated to driving blockchain technology that empowers the ‘Next Internet Economy’ was established in 2014 in Melbourne.

“To date, our global network as a FinTech Community is in 16 centres, spans14 countries and 16 cities including China, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Singapore USA Canada, Malaysia, Lithuania, Colombia, Montenegro, Pakistan, Russia, Thailand and India.

Blockchain Centre has five key pillars leveraging local partners in each country to build Knowledge, gain regulatory support, and drive investment as a trustworthy blockchain community that increases the social impact of blockchain technology in the respective countries. Opening of Sri Lanka’s Blockchain Centre brings together Web3 enthusiasts, DApp developers, FinTech entrepreneurs from various countries to help build an Internet industry.
