Two students of a group of eight students, Zoordeen Mohamed Munsif and Mohamed Ilham, aged 13 and 15 have drowned in the sea at Nintavur on Friday (16) evening in Ampara District. These students are residents at Sainthamaruthu and Malihaikadu in the Ampara district.
InvestigationS revealed that they all have left home in the evening on Friday. They rode bicycles to reach their destination called “Palakkaddai”. While they had been capturing photos and playing at the beach, they have been swept away by the waves of the rough sea.
Fishermen and the public had been searching for the missing students since the moment they heard about the incident. On Saturday morning, a body of them was found while the other body was also found in the afternoon. Due to rough nature of the sea, it was difficult to carry out search operations.
Nintavur Police are conducting further investigations in this regard. Even though several deaths reported from time to time and awareness programme conducted by several Non-Governmental organizations and Police, these types of deaths are frequently being reported countrywide.
