The Auditor General’s Department Report has pointed out that the Bope- Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) has not taken any measure to levy any Assessment Tax for 2023 in respect of 18,221 properties situated within the PS Authority. Total value of unrecovered Assessment Taxes is Rs 9,281,060.
Moreover, 13,300 and 9,652 Assessment taxable properties within the jurisdictions of the main office and the sub-office respectively of the PS, had not been Assessed since 2017, the Audit Report further discloses.
Subsequently, in response to the Audit queries, the PS has admitted that the said Assessment Taxes has not been recovered, and the issuance of the related Red Notices has re-commenced.
Consequently, the Auditor General’s Department has advised the PS to accelerate its Tax collection.
