Colombo bourse concluded the day remaining in the red zone amidst waiting for the budget proposals. Mixed investor participation was seen in very thin volumes. Thus, All-Share Price Index dropped by 55.8 points (-0.7%) to close at 8,363.3 for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index also decreased by 9.7 points (-9.7%) to close at 2,570.5.
Expolanka Holdings, LOLC Holdings, Aitken Spence, Richard Pieris and Sampath Bank remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day. Further, the broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 941.1 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 3,800.8 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 43,502.9k against the 12-month average daily volume of 192,036.8k.177,366.4k.
Banks Capital Goods, Banks and Transportation sector mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.
The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs.142.5 mn (-3.4%), Lanka IOC Rs.140.8 mn (+2.2%), Sri Lanka Telecom Rs. 63.2 mn (+7.0%), Browns Investments Rs.46.2 mn (-1.7%) and Sampath Bank Rs.51.9 mn (-1.2%). Foreigners recorded a net outflow of Rs.23.5 bn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 39.3 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs.62.8 bn. Top foreign buying counters were LIOC LKR. 18.6 mn, DIPD LKR. 12.6 mn, BIL LKR. 3.1 mn, COMB LKR. 1.4 mn, NDB LKR. 0.7 mn and COOP LKR. 0.6 mn, whilst top foreign selling counters were JKH LKR. (35.9) mn, MELS LKR. (19.8) mn, TILE LKR. (3.0) mn, SAMP LKR. (2.1) mn, UAL LKR. (0.7) mn and MGT LKR. (0.3) mn. Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in Sampath Bank (Rs.40.5 mn) and John Keells Holdings (Rs.35.7 mn) yesterday.
Additionally, Industrial Asphalts, Paragon Ceylon, SMB Leasing (Voting), Lanka Ventures and Lanka Ashok Layland were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Softlogic Finance, Nation Lanka Finance, Ceylon Printers, Hunter & Co and Serendib Engineering were the top price losers. Further, Browns Investments, LOLC Finance, Industrial Asphalts, Serendib Hotels and Prime Land Residencies were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday. Meanwhile, Ceylon Tobacco announced a third interim dividend of Rs.9.
