Colombo bourse recoups +200 points yesterday due to the positive sentiments with a hope of a new government. President and Prime Minister are supposed to step down and several members of the cabinet have agreed to hand over their responsibilities to a new all-party government as soon as it is formed.
Thus, the All-Share Price Index Increased by 221.5points (+3.1%) to close at 7,302.2for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index also gained by 116.6 points (+5.2%) to close at 2,361.4.
Sampath Bank, Expolanka Holdings, Browns Investments, LOLC Holdings and Commercial Bank remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day. Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 811.1mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,528.2mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 52,919.1k against the 12-month average daily volume of 220,326.8k. Capital Goods, Banks And Transportation mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.
The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs. 238.1 mn (+6.9%), Browns Investments Rs. 96.8 mn (+14.3%), Lanka IOC Rs. 91.2 mn (0.1%), LOLC Finance Rs. 84.3 mn (+14.5%) and LOLC Holdings Rs. 32.5 mn (+7.8%).
Foreigners recorded a net outflow of Rs. 15.7 mn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 5.1 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs. 20.8 mn.
Top foreign buying counters ASCO Rs.1.6 mn, EXPO Rs. 0.8 mn, COMB Rs. 0.8 mn, TJLLKR .0.4 mn, LOLC Rs. 0.4 mn and CFIN Rs .0.2 mn whilst top foreign selling counters were HAYC LKR.(15.9) mn, SAMP Rs. (1.4) mn, BALA LKR.(0.6) mn, LIOC Rs.(0.6) mn, BIL Rs. (0.5) mn and CWM Rs. (0.4) mn. Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in John Keells Holdings (Rs.22.6 mn) yesterday.
Additionally, SMB Leasing (Non-Voting), Industrial Asphalts, Lanka Aluminium, Hunas Falls Hotels and Equity Two were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Acme Printing & Packaging, The Nuwara Eliya Hotels, LOLC Development & Finance, Malwatte Valley Plantations and Tea Smallholders were the top price losers.
Further, Browns Investments, LOLC Finance, Industrial Asphalts, Softlogic Capital and Acme Printing & Packaging were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
Further, Sri Lanka’s official remittances were down 42% from a year earlier 274.1 million US dollars.
