Bourse rises on tourism rebound – Acuity Stockbrokers

The Bourse ended the week on a positive note this week with ASPI increasing by 135.59 points (or 1.22%) to close at 11,243.49 points, while the S&P SL20 Index also increased by 77.11 points (or 2.06%) to close at 3,819.44 points.

Turnover & Market Capitalization

Expolanka was the highest contributor to the week’s turnover value, contributing LKR 2.58Bn or 20.74% of total turnover value. Browns Investments followed suit, accounting for 8.60% of turnover (value of LKR 1.07Bn) while Comm Lease & Fin contributed LKR 0.98Bn to account for 7.87% of the week’s turnover.

Total turnover value amounted to LKR 12.46 Bn (cf. last week’s value of LKR 19.47 Bn), while the daily average turnover value amounted to LKR 3.11 Bn (-20.03% W-o-W) compared to last week’s average of LKR 3.89 Bn. Market capitalization meanwhile, increased by 2.24% W-o-W (or LKR 111.49 Bn) to LKR 5,078.83 Bn cf. LKR 4,967.34 Bn last week.

Liquidity (Value & Volume)

Diversified Financials Industry Group was the highest contributor to the week’s total turnover value, accounting for 22.56% (or LKR 2.81Bn) of market turnover.

Industry Group’s turnover was driven primarily by Comm Lease & Fin, LOLC Holdings and Lolc Finance which accounted for 86.52% of the sector’s total turnover. Transportation Group meanwhile accounted for 20.75% of the total turnover value while Food Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group contributed 17.66% to the weekly turnover.

The Diversified Financials Industry Group dominated the market in terms of share volume, accounting for 42.10% (or 208.73 Mn shares) of total volume, with a value contribution of LKR 2.81Bn.

The Food Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group followed suit, adding 23.36% to total volume (115.81 Mn shares) while the Materials Group contributed 7.02% (34.79 Mn shares) to the weekly share volume.

Foreign investors were net buyers this week with a total net inflow amounting to LKR 0.26 Bn relative to last week’s total net inflow of LKR 0.13 Bn (100.9% W-o-W). Total foreign purchases decreased by 12.3% W-o-W to LKR 0.54Bn from last week’s value of LKR 0.62Bn, while total foreign sales amounted to LKR 0.28Bn relative to LKR 0.49Bn recorded last week (-42.6% W-o-W).
