Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, PC on Monday said that BRICS should uphold a rules-based system, not just for the benefit of the wealthy and influential, but as a fair and reasonable framework for a stable global order.
“It is imperative that we strive hard to ensure a rules-based order, not only when it suits the rich and powerful, but as an equitable and justifiable model for a sustainable world order. This means upholding international law and ensuring the principles of fairness, justice, and respect for sovereignty guide our actions,” he said.
The Foreign Minister added that Global south should get together and ensure that the helpless and defenceless population in Gaza are rescued from total annihilation.
“What is happening in Gaza is heart breaking.The double standard and hypocrisy which are displayed by so called champion and freedom of expression is beyond our imagination,”he said.
The Foreign Minister stated that the Global South frequently experienced the negative effects of economic instability, climate change, and geopolitical conflict.
“The Global South has often borne the brunt of insecurity from economic instability to the impacts of climate change and geo political conflict”.
He was addressing the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting with the developing countries held in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia on Monday.
He was of the view that the expanded Brazil,Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS) coalition has potential to play a pivotal role in enhancing security by promoting dialogue and conflict resolution and cooperation in addressing transnational threat such as terrorism, cyber crime and pandemic.
“The Global South has greater role to play in addressing some of the pressing issues, the climate challenge, the debt burden and food security. These challenges are inter related and require coordinated and multifaceted approach”, the Foreign Minister added.
“Through our collective strength we can contribute to security architecture that is inclusive , resilient and responsive to the needs of all nations”.
The Foreign Minister highlighted that voices and interests of emerging economies and developing nations must be integrated more fully into the decision-making processes of international institutions.
