The Thambuttegama Police found the syringes suspected to be used by the late medical doctor Amila Sandakalum Dissanayake of Thambuttegama Hospital, who had died mysteriously on a bed in his official residence.
These syringes were found half-burnt behind his official residence.
A senior police officer said that the syringes will be forwarded to the Government Analyst by a court order. According to the investigations, this doctor, who was working at Thambuttegama Hospital, lived separately from his wife. A senior police officer said there has been no communication between the two since last January 13.
Police said that after informing the wife of the doctor’s death, she and one of the doctor’s brothers came and identified the body and helped with the autopsy.
The body was taken to Anuradhapura Hospital for a post-mortem which was conducted yesterday (14) and the Judicial Medical Officer has given an open verdict.The body parts have been sent to the Government Analyst.
The body of this doctor was handed over yesterday (14) by Thambuttegama Magistrate to his wife Malkanti Menike Dissanayake who is a dentist at Kurunegala Hospital.
The dead body has been taken to the doctor’s house in Narammala and the court has ordered it to be buried in Narammala Vennoruwa Public Cemetery, the place marked, if necessary to be exhumed for further investigations.
The body of this doctor, who had committed suicide, was found during a search by the hospital staff after he did not report to work for three days.
