The National Transport Commission (NTC) has decided to reduce the bus fares with effect from midnight yesterday in order to grant the benefit of recent fuel price revisions to commuters.
Accordingly, bus fares will be reduced by 4.24 percent, and the minimum bus fare will be reduced from Rs.28 to Rs.27 by reducing a rupee.
The bus fares did not decrease in relation to the fuel price revision that took place last August.
Accordingly, bus fares of normal bus service, semi luxury bus service, luxury bus service and super luxury bus service have been revised.
The National Transport Commission has informed all SLTB and private bus crew to charge only the stipulated bus fare from passengers and legal action will be taken against those who charge more than the stipulated rates.
According to the notification of new bus fares, the minimum bus fare is Rs.27 which was earlier Rs.28 and the highest bus fare is Rs.2,170 which was earlier Rs.2,267.
