Businessman killed, two others injured in Seeduwa shooting incident

A shooting incident at a business residence in Liyanagemulla, Seeduwa on Saturday evening (28) resulted in one fatality and injuries to two others. The injured individuals were admitted to the Negombo and Colombo National Hospitals for treatment.

The attack occurred around 5.35 p.m. when four armed assailants, arriving in a Toyota Corona car, entered the premises wearing black clothing and covering their faces.

The deceased has been identified as 53-year-old businessman Terrence Prasanna. Two others, 74-year-old Noel Fernando, who was asleep on a sofa inside the residence, and his 45-year-old son, Sampath Wasantha sustained injuries during the shooting.

Noel Fernando is currently receiving treatment at the Negombo General Hospital, while Sampath Wasantha has been transferred to Colombo National Hospital for further care.

Following the shooting, the suspects abandoned their vehicle near the Kovinna crematorium in Katunayake after it reportedly caught fire. Firefighters from the Katunayake Free Trade Zone extinguished the blaze.

Investigations are being conducted under the direction of Western Province North Deputy Inspector General of Police Rohan Premarathne and Senior Superintendent of Police Eric Perera of Negombo. Officers from the Katunayake, Seeduwa, Raddolugama, Katana and Kotadeniyawa Police stations, along with personnel from the Police Special Task Force and the Western Province North Crime Division, are involved in the probe.
