Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis ordered yesterday (5) the release of a businessman who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and produced in court in a case of sexual harassment of a well-known swimmer by posting and spreading nude pictures of her on social media.
He was released on surety bail of Rs. 500,000. This suspect, who is said to have been in a romantic relationship with the swimmer for three months, had posted on social media, a series of nude photographs taken when he had met her at a famous restaurant in Fort. In relation to this incident, two friends of the boyfriend were also arrested by the CID and released on bail after being produced in court. The computer crimes investigation unit of the CID had arrested the suspect and produced him in court. The CID produced the suspect in court accusing him of sexually harassing a well-known sportswoman by posting nude photos on social media networks. After considering the facts submitted, the Magistrate informed the CID to file the charge sheet against the suspect the next day and ordered the release of the suspect on surety bail of Rs. 500,000.
