The Court of Appeal has issued an Interim Injunction, preventing the implementation of the decision by the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs to appoint S.V. Chandrasinghe as the temporary Custodian of the Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya.
The Court of Appeal further issued an Interim Order prohibiting S.V. Chandrasinghe from voting in the election scheduled for February 11.
The Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs, R.M.P. Ratnayake had appointed S.V. Chandrasinghe as the acting Basnayake Nilame of the Devalaya, at the end of the former Basnayake Nilame’s term.
Former Basnayake Nilame Migara Jayasundara, Basnayake Nilames Association Chairman Hemantha Bandara Herath, and several others filed a Writ Application challenging the Commissioner General’s decision, arguing it was arbitrary and illegal.
