CID ordered to follow normal legal procedure afterwards:
The Court of Appeal ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (17) not to arrest Pastor Jerome Fernando at the airport upon his return to Sri Lanka. Pastor Jerome is accused of making a statement that could insult other religions including Buddhism.
The Court of Appeal issued an order that within 48 hours of his arrival in Sri Lanka, the Pastor should appear at the Digital Forensic Investigation Department of the CID to record a statement.
After that, the CID was ordered to follow the normal legal procedure regarding the pastor.
These terms were issued while announcing the order regarding the petition filed by Pastor Jerome Fernando requesting a restraining order against his arrest.
Court of Appeal Judge M.C.B.S.Moraes announced the judgement written by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne. The Presiding Judge said court would refuse to issue the Interim Orders requested by the petitioner. A notice was also issued ordering the respondents of the petition to appear before the court.
