The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) on Wednesday (24) launched a large-scale raid targeting wholesale traders and importers accused of violating consumer protection laws in the Colombo and Gampaha districts.
The raid was especially conducted to apprehend traders allegedly involved in altering product labels, storing expired goods, illegally relabelling products, selling unlabeled items, and charging above-controlled prices for essential commodities.
This special operation mainly targeted importers’ warehouse complexes, large-scale wholesale stores, as well as major wholesale shops in Pettah.
According to the CAA, several specialised enforcement teams carried out inspections across Pettah, Mattakkuliya, Grandpass, Wattala, and Modara.
Legal action will be initiated before the relevant Magistrate’s Courts against businesses and individuals found to have violated the Consumer Affairs Authority Act. (Newswire)
