The Consumer Affairs Authority CAA conducted inspections of major rice and paddy mills in the Polonnaruwa District following directives issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Saturday yesterday morning (8).
Polonnaruwa District Consumer Affairs Authority Director H.G.C.C.Kumara said inspections were carried out under the powers of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 09 of 2003. Acting on a written directive from the Director General of the Authority, officials examined paddy warehouses and rice mills in the district to gather information about available paddy stocks and the quantities of rice being released to the market daily.
The inspection team comprised 13 officials from the Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Matale districts. They inspected rice production facilities belonging to major suppliers, including Araliya Rice Mills, New Rathna, Nipuna, Menaka, Hiru Rice Mills, Jayawickrama and Wee Hena Rice Mills.
Additionally, two officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority were assigned to monitor each of these production facilities to ensure compliance with regulations, the official further stated.
