The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security to import required stocks of egg in order to enable for stabilization of prices of eggs in the market and supply eggs required for the Ramadan and Christmas celebrations and for the bakery industry including the cakes.
As per the cabinet decision taken on 18-03- 2024, Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation has imported 224 Million of eggs so far. 95% of the said imported eggs has been distributed among the consumers at a affordable price of Rs. 37/= per egg and the duration given for import of eggs was ended on 30-04-2024.
