Cabinet grants approval to amend Anti-Corruption Act

The Cabinet has granted approval for a proposal submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to amend the Anti-Corruption Act.

According to the Act, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has faced significant legal and technical challenges in carrying out investigations, filing cases, and undertaking administrative and judicial activities.

Accordingly, CIABOC has proposed amendments to certain provisions of the Act and the inclusion of several new provisions.

A committee will be appointed to submit a detailed report with recommendations on the provisions that need urgent amendment and the new provisions to be included.

The committee, chaired by a Commissioner of CIABOC, will consist of senior officials from the Justice and National Integration Ministry, the Attorney General’s Department and the Legal Draftsman’s Department. Cabinet approval has been granted for the President’s proposal to establish this committee.
