Cabinet nod for women to work on night shifts

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted its consent to the proposal furnished by Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara to submit the Draft Bill of the Shop and Office Employees (regulation of employment and remuneration) Act, Government Information Department said.

The Cabinet of Ministers had granted its approval previously to bring amendments to the Shop and Office Employees (regulation of employment and remuneration) Act No. 19 of 1954 in order in order to provide opportunities for female employees those who working for information technology related organizations, knowledge process outsourcing firms, business process outsourcing firms and offices dealing with accounting, administrative and technical work for business establishments located in other countries to engage in night shifts.

Government Information Department sources said the clearance of the Attorney General has been granted to the Draft Bill of Shop and Office Employees (regulation of employment and remuneration) (Amendment) Act prepared by the Legal Draftsman.
